THIS IS HISTORY!

There were so many story lines leading up to tonight’s Golden State Warriors vs. San Antonio Spurs game, you couldn’t make some of this stuff up even if you wanted to.

One one side, the Warriors are chasing the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls record of 72 wins and all that stood in their way is their Western Conference rival Spurs in San Antonio. On the other hand, Gregg Popovich and company were trying to maintain their home winning streak and become the first team in NBA history to remain undefeated at home during the regular season (after losing to the Warriors in Oakland at Oracle Arena on Thursday night).

The game was close throughout the first half, even with San Antonio playing without Tim Duncan, but the Warriors were too much for them.

Steph Curry went off for 37 points. Klay Thompson added 14 of his own. Draymond Green had 11 for the game. Meanwhile, LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard ended with 24 and 20 points for the Spurs respectively, but it wasn’t enough because the Splash Brothers kept making shots.

Golden State now heads to back home to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night to try and become immortalized in NBA history by being the only team ever to win 73 games in a season.

And the playoffs haven’t even started.

Interestingly enough, Steve Kerr becomes the only player AND coach to ever win 72 wins in a season and he did it with different teams. That’s legendary.

Not only this, but the last time the Warriors beat the Spurs on the road was back in February 14, 1997 when Duncan was at Wake Forest and Curry was only 8 years old. Tonight’s win not only snapped their regular season winning streak, but a 33-game losing streak in San Antonio.
