Greg Monroe Signs With Boston Celtics on 1-Year Deal

Greg Monroe has been bouncing around the league on a few teams the past few years and he has now found a new home with the Boston Celtics. The franchise and Monroe have agreed on a 1-year deal worth $5 million, which they’re using thanks to the disabled player exception that they got when Gordon Hayward went down for the year.

The New Orleans Pelicans were also interested suitors, but Monroe chose the C’s, even though they didn’t guarantee him much playing time or minutes. He will now give them some depth off the bench at the center position, possibly contributing to their upcoming playoff run.

Before his deal with Boston, Greg had a short stint with the Phoenix Suns that didn’t pan out, as the two sides agreed on a buy-out.

With the signing, the Celtics hope Monroe brings an offensive spark off the bench, even though they like to space things out. The team needs some offensive contribution when Kyrie Irving sits for a rest, though.

He will compete with Aron Baynes for minutes, but his tenacity for rebounding and offense can be great help, even if he could be a defensive liability.

Can Boston get past the Cavaliers and make it to the NBA Finals?
