Stan Van Gun’s 2015 off-season begins before the regular season starts, as Monroe delays his free agency.
One of the most sought after centers this off-season has been Detroit Pistons starter Greg Monroe. Newly appointed GM & Coach, Stan Van Gundy has been very vocal about retaining Greg for the long-term, but hasn’t found an ideal agreement all parties involved would like.
Monroe’s looking for a max-contract and was allegedly offering a five-year, $60 million deal according to the Detroit Free Press; but immediately denied claims, saying he was never offering that deal. He soon informed the Pistons he would accept a one-year, $5.4 million qualifying offer this season to become an unrestrained free agent next year.
By not signing to an offer sheet; he will be arguably the biggest free agent next June. The Team is already in cap space issues with Josh Smith still having nearly $41 million left to collect until the summer of 2017 and Andre Drummond’s rookie contract coincidentally ending at the same time – who will also be looking for max money.
"@millerfootball5: Come on @M10OSE how can you reject a 5 year 60 million deal" < cant reject anything that was not offered to me…carry on

The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Boston Celtics are all front runners to go after the 24-year-old Monroe, who’s emerging to become a future dominant big man in the league.
