Gregg Popovich Surpasses Jerry Sloan As Most Winningest Coach With One Team

Gregg Popovich is one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time. We’ve known this for a while. He’s won multiple championships and coached Hall of Famers. But now he’s achieved one of the greatest achievements by a coach ever: the most wins with one team.

After last night’s win against the Denver Nuggets, Coach Pop became the most winningest coach with one single franchise: the San Antonio Spurs, notching his 1,128 victory (and he’s not done yet!). He surpassed Jerry Sloan, who held the record with the Utah Jazz.

One of his longest serving veterans, Manu Ginobli had this to say about his beloved coach:

“The record is just a number. He didn’t need that record to define what he means for this franchise, the NBA, in the last 20 years. The fact that he’s been the coach of the team for so many years is already an impressive accomplishment. If you add five rings and this type of record, having 70 percent or more winning percentage, it’s incredible what he’s done. He’s going to keep doing it. I’m pretty sure he’s going to get some more.”

We hope Gregg keeps coaching for years to come. With the Spurs sitting at second in the Western Conference, the squad is never out of the running when talking about a championship.
