San Francisco 30, Green Bay 22 | 49ers End 9-Game Regular Season Losing Streak Against Packers
The return of Randy Moss to Lambeau Field and both teams battling for NFC (NFL) supremacy made well for a great game between the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers. In the first quarter, Green Bay was held to without a score in the first quarter for the first time since the 2010 season. 49ers kicker, David Akers would really get a kick out of that, literally, chipping in 3 field goals highlighted by a 63 yard field goal before halftime tying a record for the longest all time in NFL history. Newly acquired future H.O.F. wide receiver, Randy Moss would score his first TD as a 49er via 14 yard pass from Alex Smith.
In the 2nd half, Vernon Davis and Alex Smith would ink up for a TD putting the score at 23-7. The crowd at Lambeau was immediately feeling nervous as their chances of winning the game slimming. That was before Randall Cobb returned a 75 YD punt return followed by a two-point conversion pass to Jordy Nelson to make it a 8 point game. On the next San Francisco possession Frank (please put me in the game) Gore would would rush for a 23-yard touchdown to put the game back in double digits at 30-15.
Then again on the following Packers possession, Aaron Rodgers would link up James Jones on a 10-yard pass to bring the score to within 8 once more. But that wouldn’t enough as the Packers recovered the ball forcing a punt to SF, but couldn’t convert for a final score as Aaron Rodgers threw an incomplete pass to Jordy Nelson on their final down.
Things don’t get easier for the Packers as they play the Chicago Packers on a Thursday night game at home, while 49ers play host to Megatron and Matthew Stafford next Sunday at Candlestick Park for the NBC national game of the week.
