Texans Encounter First Loss Of The Year As Aaron Rodgers Quiets All Critics.
For the Sunday “Football America” game of the week, we were shown the then under .500 Green Bay Packers and the undefeated Houston Texans in inter-league play. After a quick 3 and out from Matt Schaub after the Packers caught him on the very first play of the game with a sack, Green Bay really looked like they were ready to “begin” their season last night.
On the first Packers possession, Aaron Rodgers would cap off a 7-play 62-yard drive with a deep pass to Jordy Nelson for 41-yards as the Packers got their first score of the game. A few possessions later before the quarters end, Rodgers would lead the Packers to another quick drive elapsing just over 2-minutes as he would link up with James Jones for his 2nd TD pass of the game.
Skipping to the 2nd quarter, Houston would get their first points of the game as Arian Foster would finish off a 10 play 54-yard drive with a goal-line rush for a TD. The Packers didn’t feel discouraged allowing a Texans long drive as they proceeded to follow on the next ensuing possession with a deep pass from Aaron Rodgers to Jordy Nelson as they linked up for their 2nd TD of the game to make it a 21-7 game. The Texans would score once more before the half with a 51-yard FG from Shayne Graham.
Heading into halftime, the Packers would chip in a 39-yd FG from Mason Crosby but that would be nullified as Connor Barwin would jump off sides before the kick. The Packers would get a first down and would capitalize with a short pass from Rodgers to Jordy Nelson for their 3rd TD connection of the night. Before the quarters end, Arian Foster would cap off a 4-minute Texans drive that he started with a 25-yd rush to give his team their 2nd TD of the game.
Jumping to the final quarter, Aaron Rodgers would immediately quiet all critics with a deep pass to Tom Crabtree for 48-yards to give the Packers an 18 point lead quieting the crowd at the Reliant Stadium putting the Texans undefeated streak at risk. On the next Texans possession, Matt Schaub would throw a pass intended for Keshawn Martin but that would be intercepted by Sam Shields. With the ball on the Texans 27, Aaron Rodgers would counter with a deep pass to James Jones to give the Packers 25 point lead.
The Texans would score once more with a recovered block by DeVier Posey but that wasn’t enough as the Texans loss their first game of the season and Green Bay jumped back to .500.
