The August 1st launch for NCAA’s unlimited meals & snacks not soon enough for Heisman Trophy winner
In a strange and disappointing story that surfaced yesterday, Jameis Winston who is Florida State’s Heisman quarterback and pitches for the school as well, has been suspended for shoplifting….crab legs. The verdict, handed down by the FSU baseball team on Wednesday, raises questions in the NFL world of whether or not Winston will be a fit for their team due to off field problems. We all know about the sexual assault fiasco, and although this one is not nearly as negative, it has still made news.
We hate to see this story come out about such a talented player who led his team remarkably this past season to a National Championship while snatching up the Heisman on the way. He was arguably the best quarterback this year in a class that boasted the talents of Johnny “Football” Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, AJ McCarron, Tajh Boyd, Aaron Murray, and several others that have NFL scouts falling in love. Following his incredible season, Winston had NFL teams in line hoping he would land in their laps on draft night once he does decide to declare.

Mel Kiper, one the best NFL analysts out, made an interesting point earlier:
“Winston is the quarterback of a national champion and a Heisman winner, so he is a role model at this point. Kids look up to him and say boy, I aspire to be Jameis Winston. You have to take that responsibility. You want to be a professional; you have to carry yourself as a professional.”
True, Winston is not YET a professional but he definitely will be one day and teams are looking at this news with that in mind. We don’t know the situation surrounding him making such a decision, but we all know stealing is wrong. Winston is no different and we’re sure he is incredibly sorry for his actions. Nobody is perfect. His mistake is being magnified because he is such a great talent and has shown incredible leadership on the field. Let’s just hope that Winston can take this in stride, learn from it, and put together a great baseball season once he comes back and this fall when the defending champs step back on the field. Hopefully this gray cloud quickly passes and Winston can focus on finishing his Florida State career the way it began, as a winner.
