The beard couldn’t come through
It was a back and forth duel between Steph Curry and James Harden last night in the Western Conference Finals, but the Houston Rockets came up short as time expired after crawling back in the 4th quarter. Harden pretty much put the team on his back and got them within one, but the last play of the game cost them the game.
After Harrison Barnes missed a layup with about eight seconds to go, the Rockets marched up the court in transition with numbers on their side. Harden had the ball in his hands and it looked like the makings of an upset waiting to happen on a last prayer shot.
Unfortunately, wires got crossed and he passed the ball to Dwight Howard coming up the court (like he was going to shoot the 3?), then got the ball back immediately and was trapped. Both Curry and Klay Thompson trapped him at the three point line, he fumbled the ball and it was game over. After the game, most were questioning whether the Rockets should have called a timeout, but Coach McHale said in the press conference he wanted the ball in Harden’s hands and trusted him to come up with the winning shot.
Harden had a spectacular game and almost finished with another triple double, scoring 33 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing 9 assists on the night. Curry lit it up in his own right, also scoring 33 points in the game and ending with 6 assists.
Twitter had a field day, putting the blame on Lil B the Based God, who said before the game that James stole his cooking dance and would be cursed if he didn’t pay homage to the originator. As much of a myth as it was, it came true at the end by coincidence.
Game 3 will be played will be played Saturday night in Houston, as the Rockets look to come back from the 2-0 series deficit and win one at home.
