JAY Z’s Roc Nation Sports Seeking Largest Sports Contract Ever From Yankees

A New Era Begins Next Season In The Bronx With Some Legends Hanging Up Their Cleats This Weekend.

Nearly five months into launching his Roc Nation Sports agency, Jigga is already preparing to get the largest contract ever in sports for his first client Robinson Cano.

For the first time since 2008, the New York Yankees are officially out of the playoffs having injuries and coaching issues (shout outs to Ozzie Guillén) among other things. Cano, who turns 31 in three weeks, will officially be the face of the Yankees with Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte retiring in a few days. Alex Rodriguez has most likely played his last game in pinstripes due to the HGH scandal and Derek Jeter is nearly broken down after 17 seasons of playing at a high level for the Yankees.

New York is now in a bad position heading into the winter off-season, as their team is obviously not a destination for free agents; with the team lacking pitching now from starters, reliefs and most of all the closer. In 2008, A-Rod signed the largest contract in sports history for 10-years worth $275,000,000 (still 4 seasons left) at the age of 33.

He will only be two years younger than Rodriguez, who’s seeking a similar contract of 10-years, but upping his payoff to a whopping $305 million. The Yankees and Cano are far from a contract agreement, which at this point giving him this large of a contract with an all likeliness of not making the playoffs next year is not in the teams interest.

Cano has been a lifelong fan of the franchise, from the six borough in Newark. We’re not sure if his hometown Yankees could get a discount, but other teams could quickly engage like the Seattle Mariners if talks don’t move forward.

Some owners and more in particular commissioners might be viewing JAY as strong arming sport franchises now with this asking price, after already signing some of the brightest talent in sports from the likes of Kevin Durant and Skylar Diggins to name a few. We wouldn’t be surprised if some teams are missing the crazy antics of Drew Rosenhaus and Scott Boras, with Cano asking for this steep of a contract at 31.

With beloved commissioner Bud Selig set to retire after the 2014 season, it’ll be interesting to see how this entire Cano and Yankees situation plays out leaving the sport partaking in the biggest contract of all time.
