After a power struggle between both Jeanie Buss and her brother Jim the past few months, it is official. The courts have decided that Jeanie has taken sole control of the Los Angeles Lakers organization and will be the one calling the shots from here on out.
As some of you may know, the two were in the news recently because of legal battles in court regarding who would be controlling owner. Jim was trying to remove Jeanie from her position, by voting her out with the board of directors, but a Los Angeles Superior Court decided that the other trustee members are obligated to keep her as head of the Lakers.
Jim Buss had to resign as a board member and now his sister Janie will take on the role.
In a statement to ESPN:
“It’s great that we were able to work this out so fast. We’ve resolved everything clearly and cleanly and now we can get back to work. Laker fans deserve success – and now we can focus again on bringing it to them. I’m also very happy that my sister Janie is becoming a Trustee of my family’s Trust. I love her, I trust her and I’m excited to work alongside her.”
Boss moves by Jeanie. Now she can resuscitate the Lakers from rebuilding pick abyss that her brother and Mitch Kupchak put them in for the past five years.
