Eagles lose another wide receiver
The comings and goings in Philadelphia continue, making them one of the busiest teams in free agency thus far. After trading LeSean McCoy and acquiring the likes of Kiko Alonso, Frank Gore and Byron Maxwell, the team is now losing wide receiver Jeremy Maclin to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Maclin will reunite with coach Andy Reid in Kansas City, who was coach when the Eagles drafted him in 2009 out of Missouri, on a deal that’s worth 11 million per season, according to Adam Shefter. This signing is meant to strengthen their need at wide receiver after the team went all season without one single wideout catching a touchdown.
Maclin is coming off the best season of his career (1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns), after coming back from an ACL injury that sidelined him all of the 2013.
The Chiefs are scheduled to clear some cap space to accommodate Maclin’s new contract and one of those casualties is most likely going to be Dwayne Bowe. If he is cut after June 1, the Chiefs will save about $11 million towards their salary cap.
