Bay Area, say goodbye
With turmoil in the locker room for much of the season, speculation has been running rampant as to the firing of Jim Harbaugh and his move away from the San Francisco 49ers.
For weeks, we’ve heard that he wanted to stay in the NFL and could potentially land in Oakland with the Raiders, but just recently, the struggling University of Michigan (Harbaugh’s alma mater) put an offer on the table that looks like he wasn’t going to refuse.
According to sources, Adam Schefter reports that Michigan’s biggest boosters have been notified that a deal is in place with Harbaugh and a press conference will be scheduled for Tuesday.
This comes only a day after Coach Harbaugh and the 49ers organization officially parted ways, immediately following Sunday’s 20-17 win against the Arizona Cardinals.
“Throughout my life, I have dreamed of coaching at the University of Michigan. Now I have the honor to live it.. Top to bottom, Michigan is about excellence, is about greatness, and you have my pledge that I will carry forward the tradition of excellence of the University of Michigan football program. I know Michigan football. I believe in Michigan football. That will not be a hard job.”
Details of his contract are reported as a seven-year deal worth $5 million per year. He also received a $2 million dollar signing bonus to commit to the university. Harbaugh returns to Michigan after playing quarterback for the team between 1983 and 1986 and will help the program get out of that slump it’s been in for the past few seasons.
