World Series is lit!

The moment every team in Major League Baseball was striving for all season has arrived and the two best teams in each league have made it this far. The Kansas City Royals and New York Mets are in the World Series and they both enter Game 1 with a lot to prove. The Royals are still feeling the effects of that WS loss last year to the San Francisco Giants, so they are sure to be hungry and not repeat the same mistakes of last season. The Mets, on the other hand, have suffered continuous losing seasons and now have seen the stars align for them to make it to the dance.

In another series where the bats would be facing good pitching, some were saying that Kansas City actually had enough power to overcome the stellar New York rotation and they proved it to kick things off in the 1st inning.

To start the game, Alcides Escobar hit an inside the park home run thanks to a poor defensive play by Yoenis Cespedes, who dropped a fly ball on the run.

The Mets tied the game in the 4th inning with a Travis d’Arnaud single, which brought Daniel Murphy in, but the side was retired before they could do anything else.

In the 5th inning, Curtis Granderson put New York up a run with a solo shot to right field and the scoring drive continued with Michael Conforto‘s sacrifice fly that brought Cespedes in.

Kansas City wasn’t done, though. Their bats brought in two runs in the 6th, tying the score at three, thanks to fly-out’s by Eric Hosmer and a single by Mike Moustakas.

The game quickly changed for the Royals in the 8th inning, when it looked like they may have given up the winning run, after Gold Glove first baseman Hosmer committed an error that cost them a run. Wilmer Flores hit it down the line and it went through Hosmer’s glove, bringing Juan Lagares in and give the Mets the 4-3 lead.

But the Royals bats were not done. Alex Gordon became an instant hero in the bottom of the 9th inning, hitting a solo shot against the unstoppable Jeurys Familia, tying the game at 4 all. Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City went completely bezerk.

The game went to extra inning and both teams were battling back and forth, with the bullpen handling the batters and completely shutting down any scoring opportunities through 12.

By the bottom of the 12th inning, Bartolo Colon was on the mound and in a tough jam. Bases were loaded and Jarrod Dyson was on the plate. A base hit would win the game for the Royals, but Colon kept his cool and forced the fly-out to center field snd retire the inning.

Things remained much of the same until the 14th inning, when Escobar made it all the way to third base thanks to a Ben Zobrist. Next up, Hosmer sent a shot to right for a sacrifice fly, which cleanly brought Escobar in from 90 feet away and give the Royals the win. It only took more than 5-hours to decide the winner of this one.

Game 2 of the World Series is tomorrow at 8:07pm EST.
