If you thought the Carolina Panthers had a rough receiving corps last year, things just went from bad to worse this season. Their No. 1 target Kelvin Benjamin, who had a bit of a breakout rookie year (1,008 yards and 9 touchdowns), will be missing the upcoming season with a torn ACL in his left knee on Wednesday.
The injury came during a joint practice with the Miami Dolphins on a routine pass drill. Benjamin cut against safety Reshad Jones, went down and stayed on the ground for a period of time before being helped up by teammates and transported off the field in a cart. The extent of the injury was not known at first, but after an MRI, a tear was confirmed.
The Panthers drafted Devin Funchess our of Michigan this past offseason, but he’s still developing. Now it seems like he may have to be the go-to for Cam Newton, but ironically, he suffered a hamstring injury shortly after Benjamin.
Pray for Carolina.
