“I guess you could say I’m glad that they lost.” – Durant

Yesterday, Kevin Durant addressed media members for the first time on what led him to finalizing his decision to sign with the Golden State Warriors. While Dub Nation lost big time to the King, blowing a 3-1 series lead, with home court advantage, they made the second biggest league free agent acquisition of the decade. Durant, whose goal is hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy, went deeper into giving an explanation about the moment he knew he was leaving Oklahoma City behind.

After witnessing LeBron James dethrone Andre Iguodala as NBA Finals MVP, Kevin immediately knew he it would be easier for him to pair up with the splash bros. and Draymond Green.

Take a look at his comments below.

Durant giving his explanation for going to Golden State

My Agent Rich Kleiman, who’s here, we were watching Game 7. Well, as it started to unfold, it was, ‘No question, no way could you go to this team.’ And I was just like a kid, like, ‘I’d really like playing with these guys. I’d get wide-open 3s, I could just run up and down the court, get wide-open layups.’ I was basically begging him. I was like, ‘Yo, this would be nice.’

As they lost, it became more and more real every day. You start to think about it even more. To see if I would fit. Then once I sat down with these guys, everything that I wanted to know about them, they kinda showed me. But we don’t have to talk about [what would have happened if the Warriors had won the title], because they didn’t get the job done, and they came after me. I guess you could say I’m glad that they lost.

We’re assuming since OKC was up 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals and having arguably the best roster at the time wasn’t enough – it makes perfect sense for him to leave Westbrook behind.
