Could the Kobe Bryant era in Los Angeles really be coming to an end? According to the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers and Bryant have yet to engage in any contract negotiations at this time. With Bryant recovering from a very serious achilles injury, it might be smart of the Lakers to wait and see how much the 35-year-old has left in the tank, but based on what Kobe is saying, he will be back and better than ever this season.
The Lakers will be forced with some major decisions moving forward, as Kobe has already said he will not be willing to take a pay cut in the near future. With all the free agents available in 2014, the Lakers would really be handcuffing their options by forking over almost $30 million to Kobe, but it’s the Black Mamba we’re talking about here. At this moment it really isn’t that outrageous of an idea to think that next summer, Kobe Bryant could sign with another team and not return the Lakers after 18 years, is it? Only time will tell about how this situation will unfold, but hopefully Jim Buss makes the right move.
Lakers fans, would you be down with letting Kobe walk if it meant being able to sign other top-tier free agents?
