Kobe Bryant & Lakers Organization Have Begun Talks For Contract Extension

It looks like Kobe Bryant might be in the purple and gold for life. Late last night, news broke out of the Lakers organization that ownership and Kobe have begun talks on a contract extension and keep Bryant from becoming a free agent this summer. Jim Buss was very clear about his intentions as well, saying that they are not going to let Kobe go anywhere. Surely this comes as great news to any Laker fans out there who feared seeing Bryant in another color uniform next season.

The only dilemma they face now is based on what kind of deal they give Kobe. Both sides must play this one smart because the Lakers still want to keep a good amount of cap space open for other free agents, but they also need to take care of Mamba. The situation is still a little foggy, considering Bryant is trying to work his way back from the tear in his achilles last season. All signs point to a Christmas return for now.

I want to put an end to any speculation that we would allow Kobe to become a free agent. That’s not going to happen. Kobe is a top priority for us. He’s a Laker legend and always will be. I don’t think we’re done winning championships with him yet.
