Yeah, That boy ready!
It’s very hard to steal a road game against the San Antonio Spurs – let alone score 50 plus points on their home court. For the first time since 2010, the Cleveland Cavaliers have finally won a game against the defending NBA Champions and sent a statement to the rest of the NBA in their overtime victory Thursday night.
The Spurs did essentially everything they could to win this game tonight, including playing elite defense down the stretch. However, Kyrie Irving didn’t get the memo, as he netted 7 three-pointers to go perfect from beyond the arch. With Kawhi Leonard having a 2013 Finals flashback moment, missing two consecutive free throws to secure a victory, the Cavs had one last show at sending the game to overtime.
As you can see in the video, Kyrie sent the game into overtime, with arguably the biggest shot of his career (we know its regular season, relax; but these moments give players confidence heading into the post-season). In overtime, the historic night would continue for Cleveland, as LeBron James joined in on the fun netting two crucial threes of his own down the stretch.
complete highlights from Kyrie’s big night!
Following risky mid-season acquisitions and questions regarding if LeBron James made the right decision to come home should be quieted after their performance tonight. Kyrie becomes the first player since Bernard King since 1984 to score over 50 points on San Antonio, finishing with 57 total (11 in overtime), so this meeting goes down as an instant classic you’ll be seeing this Saturday afternoon on NBA TV again.
The Cavs now move to a full game and a ½ ahead of central division rival Chicago Bulls; but are still 9 1/2 games behind the conference leading Atlanta Hawks.
