Lance Stephenson & JaVale McGee Sign 1-Year Deals with Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers may have won the offseason by signing Lebron James and luring him out of Cleveland, but some of their signings as a result are very peculiar.

In support of the king in L.A., Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee have decided to sign 1-year deals with the Lake Show on veteran minimums. Klutch Sports client Kentavious Caldwell-Pope also agreed to a 1-year deal worth $12 million dollars.

These are very interesting moves because they can’t guarantee signing DeMarcus Cousins in free agency or trading for Kawhi Leonard.

With that money tied up, it’ll be even harder to trade for Leonard, even if they give up the farm and send the San Antonio Spurs all of their young players.

They also won’t have enough to sign Boogie, even if they stretch Luol Deng’s contract.

Of course, we all know the past that Born Ready and King James have on the court. Now they’re both allies playing for the same team?

What does this mean for the Lakers? It is most likely that King James plays in Los Angeles for one year with the current squad as they await Kawhi to come home in free agency next season. Reports say he’s focused on coming to L.A., but like Paul George, nothing is guaranteed, especially if he goes to an Eastern Conference contender next season on a trade.
