Believe Me! Believe Me!

Floyd Mayweather really made a spectacle out of his entrance tonight before his bout with Marcos Maidana. One one side, Justin Bieber. On the other, Lil Wayne performing his new record off The Carter V, “Believe Me.” That was after the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus came out to get the crowd pumped up. It’s safe to say The MGM Grand in Las Vegas was baffled by the Money Team’s walk to the ring.

Maybe 50 Cent posts his reaction of this on Instagram tomorrow for laughs.

OS REWIND: Showtime Championship Boxing: Mayweather vs. Maidana

Last night, Floyd Mayweather improved to perfect 46-0, obtaining a majority decision in his very tough fight against Marcos Maidana. Neither fighter had any personal animosity towards each other (largely due to the fact Mayweather doesn’t Spanish, or Maidana for English). The soul out crowd of 16,268 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada got one of the better Mayweather fights in the last decade, which the 37-year-old worked every second of his 36 minutes in the ring to earn his $32 million purse. Maidana’s initial game plan was to tire Mayweather in the ring ropes aggressively attacking him and not letting up.

Throughout the fight, Marcos threw twice as many punches than Floyd with 858, but Mayeather would land 9 more in total at 230 with a 54% percentage in comparison to Maidana’s 26%. The brawl spilled literally out of the ring when Macros tackled Floyd during the 11th round out of frustration and two punches thrown below the belt in the outing. When the final bell sounded, Mayweather became the first fighter ever to successfully unify alphabet belts in each of the welterweight and junior middleweight classes. Floyd now has three fights left on his six-fight contract with CBS/Showtime and will decide soon who his September opponent will be.
