Mack Brown’s 16 Year Tenure With The Texas Longhorns Comes To An End. Last Game On December 30 At Valero Alamo Bowl.

Less than 24 hours after Nick Saban agreed to an extension with Alabama ending all speculation of leaving for Texas, Longhorns coach Mack Brown officially resigns from the school. Yesterday at a team banquet, Brown initially refuted rumors that had been lingering all week saying he was leaving; but would ultimately have a change of heart this evening. Mack had been the highest paid coach in all of College Football with a $5.2 million salary annually (more than what most NFL head coaches make) and came under fire after a 1-2 season start.

The Longhorns would finish the season with an 8-4 record and lose the Big 12 Title last week to the Baylor Bears in a 30-10 loss. His final game will be on December 30th at the Valero Alamo Bowl against the Oregon Ducks. During his 16-year tenure with the school, he finished with one BCS National Championship in 2006 and two Big 12 Championships (2005 and 2009).

Sally and I were brought to Texas 16 years ago to pull together a football program that was divided. With a lot of passion, hard work and determination from the kids, coaches and staff, we did that. We built a strong football family, reached great heights and accomplished a lot, and for that, I thank everyone. It’s been a wonderful ride

Now, the program is again being pulled in different directions, and I think the time is right for a change. I love The University of Texas, all of its supporters, the great fans and everyone that played and coached here. I can’t thank DeLoss Dodds enough for bringing our family here, and Bill Powers and the administration for supporting us at a place where I have made lifelong friendships

It is the best coaching job and the premier football program in America. I sincerely want it to get back to the top and that’s why I am stepping down after the bowl game. I hope with some new energy, we can get this thing rolling again
