Early in the year, the Atlanta Falcons had one of the worst collapses ever in the history of the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers overcame a 17-0 deficit at Atlanta, advancing to the Super Bowl from the NFC championship. Matt Ryan had an MVP-like season, leading the Falcons to the best record in the NFC (tied with Denver for top overall) and finished 5th among QBs throwing for over 4700 yards.
Ryan sat down with ESPN’s Bob Holtzman to discuss his new contract and being compared to the 2013 Super Bowl MVP, Joe Flacco. Ryan has now moved into the shadow of Flacco still remaining ring-less, as both were drafted the same year in 2008. Earlier in the summer, Flacco was the highest paid QB in NFL history signing a six-year contract worth 120.6M. He was surpassed by Aaron Rodgers of the Green Back Packers in April with a 7-year/$130M contract; and just on Thursday by Matt Ryan as well with a new 5-year/$103M extension.
This off-season, the Falcons have signed veteran RB Steven Jackson (who’s expected to have an immediate impact with the team), as they are in win-now-mode. You can continue after the jump to watch Matt Ryan’s conversation and the team’s expectations heading into the season ahead.
