Are the dolphins a playoff contender in the AFC?
After opting to not re-sign Reggie Bush last month, many within the NFL began to speculate the Detroit Lions were in rebuild mode – even with Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson still on the roster. The 28-year-old Ndamukong Suh has maintained his health over five years of professional play, only missing two career games.
Last week, Detroit made the ultimate decision of not franchising Suh (would’ve cost them nearly $27 million for the season) and allowed him to conduct contract discussions with teams in the hunt to land the league’s most dominant DT. The Miami Dolphins were one of the front-runners publicly stating they wanted the former Nebraska standout player and acted quickly, inking him to a six-year deal reportedly worth over $114 million.
The eye-raiser of his contract, however, is the $60 million guarantee in the first three years of his deal, which obvious hit defensive tackle’s sweet spot to sign within 72 hours. Ndamukong now becomes the highest defensive player in the league, surpassing Houston Texans defensive-end J.J. Watt, who signed a six-year, $100 million contract last summer, with $51.8 million guaranteed.
Ndamukong Suh will sign with #Dolphins on Tuesday based off parameters around $114 million and $60 million guaranteed, per sources.
