The BEAST is BACK! After vowing to never swim in his 30’s, Michael Phelps comes out of early retirement.
This April 24th, Mr. Olympics will be returning for the first time since his 2012 London Games massacre winning his record 22nd medal. Phelps is set to enter the 50-meter, 100-meter freestyles and the 100-butterfly for the Arena Grand Prix at the Skyline Aquatic Center (Mesa, Arizona), making his first competitive outing in nearly two years.
Following re-entrance to the U.S. drug-testing program last fall, rumors started circulating whether the 28-year-old swimmer would be returning back to sport pending an eligibility wait time of 6 months. Since September, his longtime coach Bob Bowman revealed Phelps’s is nearing 100%, in which a good outing next month could lead to his competing in the U.S. National Championships this August and be selected for the 2015 world championships.
The rest of the playing pool is now on notice for the 2016 Rio Games, where the 22-time winning Olympian will be looking to add to his trophy case.
