Phelps Swims To History Becoming First Olympian To Win 19 Medals.
Tuesday, The U.S. Men won gold in the 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay as Michael Phelps captured his 19th medal (15th of which are gold) becoming the most decorated Olympian of all time. The record was previously held by Ukrainian gymnast, Larissa Latynina, as she won her 18th medal at Tokyo in 1964. Nearly a half century later, Phelps who’s dominated swimming for over a decde, now becomes the greatest Olympian of all time at the age of 27.
Phelps also finished 2nd in singles 200-meter butterfly loosing to South African Olympic swimming sensation, Chad le Clos. Even though he’s not the dominant swimmer he once was, Phelps still owns the world record for the Men’s 200-meter butterfly set in 2008 Olympics and almost topped his record in the 2009 at Italy. By the time the 2012 games conclude, Phelps could possibly leave London with 3 more medals.
