I know everyone is wondering how I’m doing halfway through the Fantasy Football season, after scoring myself the #1 pick in my first ever draft and passing up on Adrian Peterson, yet picking up Doug Martin out of sheer love for my Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Everyone was expecting me to struggle through the season and I heard so much shit-talk, not only from the people in my league, but the comments as well. I was destined for failure, right? Even through it all, I accepted how bad I fucked up and tried to carry on with the players I did draft. All was not lost. I still had some sort of hope for the players I did pick up and haven’t done too shabby, if I say so myself.
OS REWIND: The Mistakes Of A First Time Fantasy Football League Player
I’m 5-1 and sit at the top of my standings in my division.
I know what you’re asking, how? Truthfully, I couldn’t even really tell you because I’m just as baffled. Maybe I’m just a natural. I know on a few occasions, I won by a close margin (one point in one contest). I remember one week, my defense and kicker carried my entire team to victory, after my starting players put up flops in points. After that, I had enough and did the unthinkable: revamped my entire team to fill in some gaps.
First thing’s first, I needed a better running back than Doug Martin because he’s been pure struggle all season. In one blockbuster trade, I sent Steve Smith, Doug Martin and Greg Olsen in exchange for Matt Schaub, Julius Thomas and Trent Richardson. I already had Martellus Bennett at TE, so I could spare Olsen. At the same time, I picked up the Chiefs defense (who had been sitting in waivers untouched for weeks) and traded away the Bears defense and Greg Jennings for Frank Gore. I basically picked up the RB I needed, a better TE I could use at FLEX and an extra RB in Richardson.
But I still had a shortage at WR after dropping Julian Edelman (since Danny Amendola was back), watching Robert Woods and Eddie Royal flop and trading away two starting WR’s I picked up in the draft. So on an off week for Torrey Smith, I traded away Trent Richardson for him, to start alongside the hit-and-miss Demayrius Thomas.
All in all, I’m glad I got rid of Doug Martin (who just got hurt and will be out for a few weeks), and after watching Adrian Peterson struggle last night, I’m not even mad I didn’t pick him up in the draft. Plus, I’ve been winning games and look to be a lock for the playoffs (unless I lose every single game from here on out), so for a n00b, shit could be worse. Fuck around and I might make another deal before the end of the season.
How has everyone else’s Fantasy Football season been thus far?
