Mike Brown Fired As Coach of the Cavaliers

Mike Brown hired, then re-fired after only one season back with the Cavs.

NBA Spring cleaning is well underway, with many NBA head coaching vacancies rapidly on going. Only a few weeks removed from the end of the 2014 season, we’ve already seen lame-duck Mike D’antoni part ways with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Knickerbockers sadly let go of Mike Woodson and the Bay Area Warriors unfortunate firing of Mark Jackson.

Last summer, Dan Gilbert and the Cleveland Cavaliers gave head coach Mike Brown a second stint as head coach after having a successful summer (we initially thought). They drafted Anthony Bennett as the number one overall pick, then signed both Jarrett Jack and Andrew Bynum for playoff aspirations in a depleted eastern conference. Today, they formally announced the dismissal of Brown after a horrendous 33-49 season.

Cleveland is banking big on the return of Lebron James to the city this summer. They will now have to act quickly in drafting another top prospect and signing the right coach to make that market attractable to the KING once again. Their first plan however before anything is to re-sign Kyrie Irving to a maximum contract extension, for their first move in the team’s future.

This now marks the second consecutive season where Bron has been fired in the off-season, which the Lakers parted ways with him in 2013. We’re not sure whether Mike will be given another stint as a head coach in the league, but Chicago Bulls assistant coach Adrian Griffin has emerged as a top candidate for the job. For a team with top-five picks for the last 4 NBA drafts, they’ve had little success winning only 97 games since the departure of LeBron, who helped lead the team to a 61-win season in 2010. They’re now officially on the clock!
