Los Angeles Lakers fans, you are now free from the most painful season you’ve ever witnessed. Mike D’Antoni has stepped down as coach of the team as of tonight. According to sources, the Lakers refused to pick up the $4 million dollar option on his contract, which consisted of him coaching the team through the 2015-16 season. The two sides were in talks for the past few weeks, but things never materialized. This past season pretty much signed, sealed and delivered his fate.
D’Antoni ends his tenure in Los Angeles posting the worst record in the history of the franchise and second worst winning percentage, finishing with a 67-87 record.
Maybe Jim Buss won’t have to step down after all.
