Minnesota Timberwolves Forward Andrew Wiggins Wins 2015 NBA Rookie of the Year

The future superstar ends 2015 season with r.o.t.y. honors

Since originally being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers last summer as the no. 1 overall pick in 2014, Andrew Wiggins has had a rocky inaugural season in the NBA. In comparison to other first year players of numerous superstars being out of action this year, Wiggins played in all 82 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves. With the team likely to have this year’s top pick in the upcoming June draft, where they could land Kentucky star Karl Towns, Minnesota has revealed their stand-out swing-man Wiggins has officially been named this year’s rookie of the year.

Throughout the season, he led all rookies in scoring with 16.9 points a game, along with 2.1 assist and 4.6 boards each outing. While he looks to make the Timberwolves a future playoff contender, the 20-year-old Canadian gets to soak in first of many monumental achievements. Take a look at an excerpt from the acceptance speech below.

“I want to thank my teammates for supporting me, pushing me throughout the whole year,” Wiggins said before saying of coach Flip Saunders, “It’s been a rough summer, getting traded and everything like that. [He] made it easy on me.”
