Must See NFL Sunday 2013: Week 1

UPDATE: Cowboys Win 36-31

While the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys may not be favorites to come out of the NFC (or even their own division), their prime-time meeting tonight on NBC is the game we’re looking forward to the most today. Both teams are serious wildcard contenders, not in sense of standings, but unpredictable whether they can be a legitimate threat to the rest of the NFC and NFL. Neither team made the playoffs last year, but they’re looking to re-enter the postseason this year.

The Cowboys running game isn’t going to be that effective, but with Dez Bryant healthy to start the year, he will be looking to have his best season yet. Owner, Jerry Jones has hired offensive coordinator Bill Callahan to help finally mold Tony Romo into becoming an elite QB. Romo signed a 6-year, $108M extension and will be under the most pressure ever heading into this season to perform.

It’s blasphemous to say a team’s first game is a must win for a season opener, but the Cowboys season really does depend on a strong victory tonight going ahead. The New York Giants are surrounded by injuries plaguing Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, and have also lost key players in the likes of Stevie Brown to ACL injury and Andre Brown out until week 10 with a broken leg. If the Giants somehow win this game, the Cowboys season is over before it started after their upgraded roster in the off-season.
