It happens to the best of teams, but today could be a very sad day for some of the NBA’s most historical. The Lakers, Celtics and Bucks are all facing the possibility of getting swept out of the playoffs, and from the looks of the matchups, it seems likely that all three will take place. To have the Lakers and Celtics get knocked out in four games on the same day, in the first round of the playoffs is crazy to think about, but it appears to be upon us.
Do you think that any of these teams that are down 3-0, have a chance of winning today to extend their season by one more game?
In the first game of the day, the Celtics will try and battle back against the New York Knicks and save face in Boston. A little glimmer of hope for Boston is that Knicks SG and NBA 6th Man Of The Year JR Smith is suspended, for elbowing Jason Terry during game four. That is about all that’s going for Gang Green though, because they haven’t been able to put up the points in the series. It might be time to face facts that this is the last we might see of these Doc Rivers’ Celtics, as many believe they will blow up the squad this summer and rebuild.
Next up we head to Los Angeles to examine the Lakers and Spurs series. Coming into the matchup, the purple & gold were already over matched not having Kobe Bryant, but the injuries continued to come as today they are without Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Jodie Meeks & Metta World Peace. The Spurs have done the opposite, getting healthier as the series has gone on, with Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli getting back into their All-Star form. After giving the Lakers their worst home playoff loss ever in game three, we find it extremely doubtful that these injury-riddled Lakers would be able to extend this back to San Antonio. Unless Pau and Dwight plan on each going for 40, we see the Lakers hitting the beach a little early this year.
The third team going for a sweep today is the one that many saw coming. The Miami Heat go into game four against the Milwaukee Bucks, picking right up where they left off during their championship run last year. This series comes down to a huge talent gap and of course the greatest player on the planet, LeBron James, leading the Miami Heat. Even though the Bucks have hung around in all three games and even held 2nd half leads, the Heat have been able to pull away and not have any of the games in doubt. It will take a near miracle for the Bucks to pull off this upset, but we have seen stranger things before.
