What’s the deal, New Orleans?
The New Orleans Pelicans were never looked at as a team that would make the NBA Playoffs to start the season, but thanks to Anthony Davis and their resilience, they snuck in with the 8th spot above the Oklahoma City Thunder and marched in for the first time since 2011.
Their run came to a screeching halt because of the red-hot Golden State Warriors, but that doesn’t mean the team didn’t achieve great heights this season.
Apparently, it wasn’t enough for the organization because they have decided to part ways with head coach Monty Williams after a 45-37 record this season.
“Making a decision like this is never easy and is never done hastily, especially when you are dealing with a person of Monty Williams’ character. We thanked Monty for the tremendous work and commitment he made to our organization and the development of our young players, specifically Anthony Davis. While we continue to work towards improving our roster, we decided that now was the time to make this decision. We wish nothing but the best for Monty in the future.”

While there’s no details as to why the Pelicans decided to go in a different direction, there are plenty of coaches that would jump at the opportunity to be at the helm of the young team with potential. Some names being thrown out there are the likes of Tom Thibodeau, Mike D’Antoni — and of course — Mark Jackson is still out there.
