New York Yankees Retire Joe Torre’s No. 6

7 years after leaving the Bronx, Joe Torre returns home to retire his #6 jersey.

With Derek Jeter nearing the end of his final season and Alex Rodriguez still hiding in exile, the Yankees fans finally had something to legitimately cheer about in the underwhelming season for 2014. As the Wild Card race in the American League is rapidly approaching in the coming weeks, the bombers have surprisingly won their last 3 games to inch closer Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners, where former 2nd baseman Robinson Cano is currently playing.

The team’s offense finally came to life with their victory over the Whitesox; but the real story of yesterday, was the team officially honored their former skipper. The recently inducted baseball hall-of-fame manger, Joe Torre threw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game before receiving a replica of his plaque that will soon hang in Monument Park.

Watch Joe receive his long-awaited honoring from the New York Yankees after the jump.
