NFC Wild Card Weekend Football: Seahawks/Redskins Preview

Seattle at Washington
Time: 4:30 PM (ET) | Today
Network: FOX

This is probably our most anticipated game of the wildcard weekend festivities, as the Seattle Seahawks travel to nation’s capital to face the Washington Redskins.

The Seahawks had a better season this year with an 11-5 record (in comparison to Washington’s 10-6 record), but under NFL playoff rules, winner of each division get one home game in the postseason. The Seahawks, who have been playing some of best football of the entire NFL, finishing the year off with 5 consecutive wins, had impressive outings against both the San Francisco 49ers and the Chicago Bears.

Like the first game we saw today, neither of these teams played each other before, which could benefit the Redskins offense against one of the top defenses in all of football. In order for the Redskins to have a legitimate shot at winning today, they will have to focus on the rushing of Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris, as Seattle’s pass-rush has been only second to the San Francisco 49ers all season.

Robert Griffin III’s been dealing with a knee injury, which has hindered his explosive play the last two weeks, but it’s why most are picking Seattle to win on the road today. Some could argue that Russell Wilson is the 2012 rookie of the year, but due the NFL’s propaganda of hyping up their two golden boys for future of the NFL, he’s been constantly over looked, especially not being in a bigger market.

In the 2013 postseason though, the casual fans of the league will definitely remember Russell’s name, word to Main-O. Back to RG3, he finished with the highest passer rating by a rookie QB ever (at 102.4) and third-best in the NFL. Going up against the Seahawks will be the biggest challenge his career thus far.

This game essentially comes down the Redskins offense and the Seahawks defense, proving for a good game. Washington hasn’t hosted a postseason home game in 13 years and may potentially be a day the city will never forget.

FINAL: WAS 14 | SEA 24
