Talk surrounding National Anthem protests are not going away and the NFL seems to be digging themselves a deeper hole the more the months pass.
In a meeting taking place in Atlanta today, NFL owners have voted unanimously to implement new National Anthem rules, which will prohibit players from kneeling (or sitting) during the song as protest to police brutality and racial inequality. Players who choose not to stand as a result of the new league police can opt to remain in the locker room or receive a fine from the team.
Team personnel is also subject to the same policy the players are.
It’ll be interesting how this plays out. You can already think of a number of scenarios that could happen as a result to this. Players can always choose to protest in a different manner than kneeling or sitting. They can also choose to take a stand and receive the fine. Or heed to the new policy and stay in the locker room.
Other proposals going around the league before they agreed on this policy was to assess a 15-yard penalty for instances in which players kneeled, or a “do nothing” approach, where the league let everything play out organically.
At the end of the day, we expect more controversy to come from the new vote, as the No Fun League continues dipping in viewership.
