Reports have started to float to the surface of the NFL’s reported hiring of Sarah Thomas as a full-time official. This is surely a ground-breaking move by the NFL, but isn’t so surprising considering it’s 2015, and it’s not that weird that there’ll be a female official on the field.

Of course, there are clearly safety concerns when you consider the fact that she’s leaps and bounds smaller than most NFL players. That being said, we wouldn’t exactly say there are too many NFL refs that look like they could stand being bumped by a player either—with the exception of Ed “Hit ‘Em With the Flex” Hochuli that is, but we digress.

Thomas has been a finalist for a spot as a referee before, and it’s pretty dope to see her finally get her chance. Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun had this to add about Thomas’ ability to officiate in the NFL:

She has the right temperament and attitude and feel for the game. She knows the rules and understands how to apply them in the spirit of the rules. That sets her apart, male or female.

That’s surely not the only thing that will set her apart from other officials, but it’s certainly the only thing that matters. Congrats to Sarah Thomas on a dream achieved.
