For the second week in a row now, this Thursday’s NFL game was a little lopsided on the scoreboard. Tonight, the New York Giants defeated the Washington Redskins by a score of 45-14 and now NYG advances to 2-2 for the season, while the Redskins drop to 1-3.
The Giants offense turned up for the first time in a while last week and they kept the momentum going tonight. The defense actually set up their offense again and again, forcing SIX turnovers on the Redskins. Eli Manning threw 28/39 for 300 yards, four passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown and only one interception to end the game. But the real story of the night was tight end, Larry Donnell. Donnell, who went un-drafted in 2012, had a big time coming out party tonight. He caught seven passes for 54 yards and three touchdowns.
On the offensive side for the Redskins, things did not go good at all. The wonder boy Kirk Cousins entered tonight’s game coming off a 400+ yard and three touchdown game last week, but tonight’s outing went nothing like that for him and the Redskins. The whole team had six turnovers and the Giants capitalized on all of them, scoring 31 points off of all their mishaps. Kirk threw four interceptions on the night, while going 19/33 for 257 yards and only one touchdown, making fans wonder if there will be QB controversy once RGIII is back and healthy. Redskins running back Alfred Morris was held to a quiet game as he carried the ball 12 times for 63 yards and one touchdown.
This is the second week in a row that the New York Giants have looked great, starting with their defense and quarterback Eli Manning. The last two weeks the defense has caused nine turnovers and Eli and the offense have taken advantage of every last one of them. Eli’s stats for the last two weeks are looking like the old him: 49/67 (73%), 534 yards, six passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown and only one interception.
Is it time for the Redskins to panic?
Does this mean the Giants are ready to take back the NFC East title?
The jury is out on both, but we can definitely say that this year in the NFL has been crazy and it’s still early in the season. Thursday Night Football is the new home for blowouts.
