It only took two years for the Adidas era to be phased out in favor of Nike. The $1 billion dollar contract starts at the top of the 2017-2018 NBA season and after so long of a wait, a preview of what to expect has finally surfaced from the sneaker giant.
So what’s so different about these jerseys than the last? Apparently, they consulted with plenty of players and folks at levels of basketball to come up with the next generation version of the Aeroswift basketball chassis. The weight, fit and construction of the uniforms is meant to increase the players’ agility thanks to 3D body maps, which included heat and sweat maps of them to gain better efficiency.
The uniform is comprised of Alpha Yarns and recycled polyester to give players a full range of motion and the yarn blend is supposed to absorb moisture more quickly than previous NBA uniforms. At a rate of 30% faster than its predecessors. That’s 15% quicker drying time.
Next season you will also see an elimination of “Home” and “Away” jerseys. There will be four primary uniforms, which teams will choose from, including the Association (the traditional home, white), Icon (the “road” jersey with the team’s primary color) and Classic Edition (only eight NBA teams will have this uniform in their repertoire).
“The mental advantage of a quality uniform is priceless. The fact that Nike listened to all of our feedback while developing the new NBA uniforms speaks volumes. I’m excited for the new fit and feel.” – Kyrie Irving
What do you think of the new uniforms compared to the old Adidas? Cop or flop?
