It was a Cinderella season for the Northern Illinois Huskies this year. Ranked in the Top 25, their path to a BCS at-large bid was already paved. That was until Friday night when they faced the Bowling Green Falcons for the 2013 MAC Championship.
Heisman Trophy hopeful Jordan Lynch had all eyes on him, but by the end of the night, BGSU’s Matt Johnson had the better game and Mid-American Conference title.
The Huskies trailed pretty much the whole game, going down 31-13 by halftime and never quite posed a threat the whole game. Lynch threw two interceptions on the day, including one down the stretch that set up Johnson’s fifth touchdown of the night.
After Fresno State’s shocking loss last week, No. 14 Northern Illinois was a lock for a BCS at-large berth, but with tonight’s upset, Baylor, Oregon and Clemson now have a fighting chance to land that spot instead.
