Thunder build for immediate future

After losing Kevin Durant in free agency for nothing, the Oklahoma City Thunder have officially moved on, with locking up their young core. Over the summer, the team signed Russell Westbrook to a two-year contract extension, which will ensure he’s on the team until summer 2018.

However, today, they’ve agreed to four-year extensions with both Victor Oladipo and Seven Adams, ahead of tonight’s midnight deadline. They now keep one of the league’s best interior defenders, as well as a youthful talent on the rise to complement Westbrook in the back-court.

OKC was reportedly interested in bringing hometown native, Blake Griffin, back to town, but maxing out Oladipo at $84 million and Adams and an even $100 million seems unlikely this summer.

It’s a busy week for the Thunder, as they have upcoming back-to-back road games against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night and the Golden State Warriors 24 hours later. This will mark the first time Westbrook and Durant will see each other since free agency.
