One team needed a solid backup Tim Wright and one needed a solid offensive lineman.
For those who have been keeping up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you would happen to know they are in desperate need of a better offensive line after witnessing their line collapse time and time during the pre-season. In an effort to make things better, they locked down a deal with the New England Patriots, who gave up All-Pro guard Logan Mankins to strengthen their depth at tight end.
In return, the Pats get TE Tim Wright as insurance in case anything happens to Rob Gronkowski, injury wise, and a 4th round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. If Gronk stays healthy, New England can run the offense in two tight end sets with Wright for some plays, much like they did when Aaron Hernandez was there.
The Mankins move certainly boosts the Bucs crumbling offensive line, with a proven leader and veteran presence in the locker room. The jury is out on whether Tampa Bay will go out and pick up another player for their line, with rumors coming out that they were after Alex Boone from the San Francisco 49ers in recent weeks. Richie Incognito also visited the team Monday and might be in the running to join the squad.
