Patriots Secure Thursday Night Victory on Last Second FG Block Against Jets

New York Falls to 1-6 in heartbreak loss to New England

The New York Jets haven’t had too much to celebrate this year, following one of their worst off-seasons in the history of their franchise. Many will blame Rex Ryan for another underperformed season they’re currently enduring once again; but from our perspective, their failures are at the fault of John Idzik, Woody Johnson and the rest of their front office not making proper personnel moves in the off-season to upgrade its roster.

The same can be said about their opponents tonight and arched rival New England Patriots, but the experience of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick has them right back in the hunt for another shot at being a legitimate Super Bowl contender this winter. Week 7 NFL action began with the Patriots playing a home game at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA to improve their record even more. New England would start the game with an immediate deep 49 yard TD pass from Brady to Shane Vereen for an early 7-0 lead.

While the Jets would soon get on the boards, they were limited to 3 consecutive field goals from Nick Folk, to give them a 9-7 lead to start the second quarter. Following another 80-yard drive TD, this time to Shane Vereen, New England would lead the game 17-12 before the half. With the Patriots run game non-existent the entire night only totaling 63 yards, Rex Ryan would finally use the ground game to use with Chris Ivory scoring his first TD of the game – to complement his 107 yards on 21 carries.

New York soon had a 19-17 lead but their opponents would immediately answer back with a Stephen Gostkowski 36-yard field goal, proceeded by a Danny Amendola TD catch to push their lead to 8 points. Geno Smith would lead his team down the field on an impressive 86-yard drive, but failed a must-needed two-point conversion to tie the game. New York would surprisingly show one of their best defensive outings of the night forcing a quick three-and-out against New England. With 76 seconds left, Geno and the Jets would make it to the Patriots 40-yard line but unfortunately would have to settle for a 58-yard field goal attempt. Defensive tackle Chris Jones would come up as the late hero of the game, blocking Nick Folk’s attempt to secure their 27-25 victory.

Tom Brady and company get to rest at home for the next 7 days until their meeting October 26th against the Chicago Bears, while the Jets will have to reexamine themselves for their worst start in over a decade.
