Paul Pierce, Washington Wizards Agree to 2-Year/$11 Million Deal

Paul Pierce
Mr. Pierce is now headed to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C.

The Washington Wizards may have lost Trevor Ariza in free agency to the Houston Rockets, but they land veteran Paul Pierce. Yesterday, wing-defender Ariza agreed to a multi-year deal with the Rockets, prompting Washington to immediately grab a marquee name in free agency.

Last season, Pierce saw his numbers decline playing alongside Joe Johnson and Deron Williams in Brooklyn, and even saw himself playing the four position during the 2014 playoffs. Now returning back to his natural SF position, he be providing some much needed perimeter experience for the young back-court tandem of the future – John Wall and Bradley Beal.

While the Wizards improved on the offensive end in finding a closer, their team takes a backseat in perimeter defensive drastically due to Pierce’s inability to keep up with rise of youth within the league. Whether Washington can a find some back-court and wing defense in free agency remains to be seen, but they showed their fans and more importantly the competition why they didn’t get discourage coming just 2 games shy from reaching the conference finals.
