The Denver Broncos seems to be on a slump the past few weeks and Peyton Manning has been criticized for his underwhelming performances in the last couple of Sundays, making people wonder if his age is finally catching up to him. The timing could not come at a worst time, around the corner from the playoffs. If the Broncos lose this next Sunday, they can give up a first round bye and end up in the Wild Card games.
For everyone wondering if Mr. Manning is contemplating retirement after the season, those rumors were put to the rest at a press conference earlier today.
“I have not thought about those circumstances at all. I certainly plan on being back if the Broncos would have me, but at this point I’m kind of thinking about Oakland. I know this is the time where conversations about what head coaches are going to return and I guess for some reason I get to fall into that category because I’m closer to the same age as some of the coaches.
I have no plans along those lines [of retiring]. I’m enjoying playing, I’m looking forward to Sunday’s game and hopefully the game to follow that.”
Denver plays the Oakland Raiders this next week and a win can give them the advantage over the Cincinatti Bengals with the first round bye. One more touchdown thrown will also give Manning 40 for the season and he would become the first quarterback in NFL history to have three seasons of over 40 touchdowns in one year.
Regardless of what people think, we’d take a 38-year old Peyton Manning over almost any other quarterback in the league.
