History was made
One of the greatest quarterbacks of our generation and quite possibly ever, has now become one of two in the history of the NFL to throw for 500 touchdown passes in the span of their career. Peyton Manning joins Brett Favre in the exclusive club, coming into the game only one shy of breaking the record. The 500th touchdown came in the first quarter with a 7-yard strike to Julius Thomas for one of his two scores in the day. After today’s game, Manning now trails Favre by five touchdowns, needed six to break the all-time record (508).
Not only did the five-time league MVP accomplish this incredible feat, but his 4 touchdowns and 479 yards passing helped set a single-game career high for Peyton as the Denver Broncos routed the Arizona Cardinals 41-20 at home earlier today.
After breaking the NFL single-season touchdowns (55) and yards (5,477) records last season, if he sticks around another year, he can have a chance at the all-time passing yards record as well, on his way to NFL immortality and certified GOAT status.
“I have reflected on the great teammates and coaches that I’ve been with along the way, who have been a part of that. You don’t throw that many touchdowns without a lot of help. I guess I think about just how grateful I am to have played with some great teammates at all positions…excellent coaching. I’ll always be grateful for that.”
