Last Stop For Vick? New 1-Year Deal Ensures Eagles Cap Room Security For 2014-15 Season.
Two years after Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a six-year/$100M dollar contract, the two sides have now restructured a deal with a new deal for the 2013-14 season. Upon the conclusion of the Eagles regular season last December; all signs were pointing to the team releasing their former starting QB but after a firing of Andy Reid and recent hiring of Chip Kelly, management had an immediate change of heart.
Under the new deal, Vick takes a $5.5M pay cut for the season as he can make up to a $10M in incentives if his play on the field returns back to “normal” with his skill-set obviously still intact. With Kelly moving his offensive playbook from the Oregon Ducks, we’ll find out whether the dynamic of Chip, Vick and LeSean McCoy can all co-exist in an all new Eagles run-structured offense. Our only concern is the inconsistency of the Philadelphia’s offensive live for the upcoming season.
It’s a win-win situation for both parties; in a sense that with a weak draft class and even worse free agency QB field, and Vick having a chance to rebuild his image after last year.
