Phillies complete first NO-NO against NL East rival Braves.

The 2014 season for the Philadelphia Phillies isn’t something they’ll think about once October arrives. With pitchers Cliff Lee and Mike Adams missing the majority of the season with injuries, the team has had one of their worst outings in recent memory.

One day after trading away John Mayberry Jr. to Toronto, dedicated fans still watching had something to smile about this afternoon. After being victim to Josh Becket’s no-hitter earlier in the season, Philly redeemed themselves with a NO-NO of their own.

With Cole Hamels still looking for a CY Young to compete his imminent hall-of-fame career, he was at the center of a no-hitter for the first time ever. Hamels would pitch 6 impressive innings motivating his team before skipper Ryne Sandberg would substitute relievers Jake Diekman, Ken Giles and Jonathan Papelbon to close out the game.

This marks the team’s first no-hitter since Roy Holladay’s epic post-season performance against in 2010 and their first ever combined no-hitter in franchise history 1883.
