What is going on with the Oakland Raiders? Considering they just hired Jon Gruden and the team is slated to start a new tenure in Las Vegas in a few seasons, instead of retaining arguably their best player, they’re sending him packing.
The organization has been in talks with several teams concerning trades for Khalil Mack and it seems like the Chicago Bears have the most to offer them. Oakland have been previously linked to the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers, asking for two first round picks in exchange for the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year.
According to Adam Schefter, the Chicago package seems to be the most attractive.
Mack has been absent from voluntary offseason training for the Raiders, as well as mini camp, hoping he and the team could come to an agreement on a deal.
This is a shocker for Oakland fans, with the team having high hopes and Super Bowl aspirations next season. The team obviously had no problem paying Coach Gruden, so it’s a head scratcher why they wouldn’t pay Mack as well. Reports have come out saying he hasn’t talked to anyone in the organization since February, so it’s clear the two sides were far apart in any further dealings of a contract.
This one is on Chucky and the organization.
UPDATE: The Bears agree on a deal with Mack to make him the richest DE in NFL history, giving him a 6-year extension worth a reported $141 million, with $90M guaranteed and a $60M signing bonus.
Bears and Khalil Mack’s agent Joel Segal worked through most of the night and today to get done the six-year extension. Both got what they wanted. Bears get the Pro-Bowl DE they coveted; Mack and Segal get the record-setting deal they wanted.

Over last 48 hours, Raiders engaged in active trade talks with multiple teams. They asked for two first-round picks. Other teams made enticing, big-time offers of multiple picks. Chicago was willing to offer most, whatever compensation turns out to be in the end. It will be rich.
