The Celtics guard will miss first part of the season
Rajon Rondo is set to miss at least the first part of the regular season after undergoing a surgical procedure of a left metacarpal fracture this morning. Rondo told the team that he injured his hand in his home this Thursday when he fell down in the shower and there doesn’t seem to be any foul play as of now. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks, which leaves the Boston Celtics with rookie Marcus Smart and second year man Phil Pressey (who started 11 games last year) to run point at the start of the season.
For months prior, rumors of the Celtics possibly trading Rondo have been swirling but owner Wyc Grousbeck made sure to refute them after the injury:
“It’s my goal to keep Rondo here, I think we all want that. And I actually honestly think he should speak for himself. I think Rajon wants to stay, or would be very happy to stay. And we’ll see how this season goes, and how the negotiations go, but he’s proud to be a Celtic. I know that. He’s proud to wear that 2008 title ring and he deserved it.”
Rondo is set to become a free agent after this season, so he will want to prove that he can still can bring his A game and stay healthy.
