Robert Griffin III Placed on Injury Reserve for Cleveland Browns

It took but a mere one game for Robert Griffin to go from healthy, to being injured and one run to do so. On his Sunday debut with his new team, the Cleveland Browns, RGIII scrambled out of bounds as the Browns trailed 22-10 against the Philadelphia Eagles and got hit hard.

Griffin was checked by the Browns medical staff and convinced them he was okay, even saying after the game that he feels fine and it was an unfortunate hit.

Turns out he fractured his coracoid bone in the left shoulder and will now miss at least six games, possibly eight to ten. Since he was placed on injury reserve, he cannot return until eight weeks from now, but can practice as soon as six weeks. He will be re-evaluated within four to six weeks and at this time it doesn’t look like he’ll need surgery. The earliest RGIII can return is November 10 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Griffin finished the game 12-of-26 for 190 yards with 0 touchdowns, 1 fumble and 1 interception.

What this means for Cleveland is Josh McCown and Cody Kessler will get reps in his absence as the team continues with quarterback problems, much like every season in recent memory.
